Coach Jim Schwartz has talked for three weeks about how close KR Stefan Logan was to breaking a long return. One of the reasons the Lions brought back safety Dante Wesley was because of his ability to block on the return teams. Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo has taken note. In his teleconference on Wednesday, he singled out Logan as a specific concern.
"Special teams-wise, that No. 11 (Logan), he can kill you," he said. "He covers, beats blockers, makes tackles, he returns. We're a little bit concerned about their special teams, no question."
The Lions carved up the Packers' 3-4 defense last week with a wide array of underneath crossing routes. This week, they face a more traditional 4-3 defense. The Rams will play a straight two-deep and do all they can to keep WR Calvin Johnson in front of them. Thus, it will be more of the same for the Lions' offense.
"They play a consistent defense and they try to stop big plays at the top," WR Nate Burleson said. "Watching on film, what's been hurting them a little bit is inside the zone. Our tight ends, running backs and slot receivers are going to have to come up big."
Defensively, the Lions have to stop RB Steven Jackson and make rookie QB Sam Bradford beat them. Jackson took the game over last season, rushing for 149 yards in the Rams' 17-10 win.
