A key to the Falcons' success early this season has been their ability to convert on third downs on the road. The offense ranks fifth in the NFL in road third-down conversions, converting 15 of 34. Atlanta's 44.1 conversion percentage also ranks among league leaders.
The Falcons were one of the league's best teams on third down on the road in 2009, converting 44 percent of their attempts with 48 total conversions.
Coach Eric Mangini plans no changes in the secondary after Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer passed for 371 yards against the Browns, albeit in a losing cause. The week before Joe Flacco snapped out of a funk and threw three touchdown passes while picking on cornerback Eric Wright. Mangini wants the defensive backs and front seven to work in concert better.
Browns S Abe Elam vs. Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez. Tight ends usually feast on the Browns, and this week they have to face one of the best in NFL history. Elam won't have to cover Gonzalez alone. That's a lot to ask of an elite safety, and Elam is not in the elite class. Gonzalez has 19 catches and a touchdown this season.
Browns RG Floyd Womack vs. Falcons LDT Corey Peters. Peyton Hillis has bulldozed his way to two straight 100-yard games, but he'd be the first to give credit to his offensive line. Hillis likes to run between the tackles. When he runs to the right on Sunday he'll need a good push from Womack.
